1. Start studying, reviewing and practicing way before the test date.

Do not leave learning how to drive till the very last minute. You as a new driver will have to practice driving as much as possible before the road test date. Some individuals learn quicker than others ICBC recommends 60 hours of driving before booking the road test.

Make sure to review the Tuning up for Driving book from ICBC. This book will help you navigate the road test and provide you with the essential knowledge on what to expect and do while driving on the road.

2. Get plenty of rest the night before

Having a good night rest the night before the exam will make a world of a difference for your alertness. Make sure to go to bed early. If you are excited or anxious, going to bed early will give your body and mind time to settle before falling asleep.

3. Eat a healthy breakfast on exam day

Breakfast is an important meal as it is the first meal the body takes in after fasting through the night while sleeping. Ensure to have some food, something light that will keep your mind alert.

4. Arrive at the ICBC testing center early

Arriving early ensures that you have parked the car in the designated parking stall for the road test and gives you time to do a final review before the road test. Make sure that your vehicle is road test worthy by reviewing the checklist on the back of the Tuning Up for Drivers book from ICBC. Bring 2 pieces of ID, money to pay for the road test and insurance papers for the vehicle you will be using.

5. Take a few deep breaths and relax before starting the driving exam

As the driver examiner approaches the vehicle, take a few deep breaths. When you are feeling anxious about taking a test, take a few minutes to breathe deeply. This simple technique can help calm your nerves and relax your body.

6. Listen carefully to what the examiner is asking of you

The driver examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal or try to trick you. Make sure to listen carefully to what they ask of you to do. Ask them to repeat or repeat back to them their instruction to ensure that you heard them correctly.

7. See, think, do

Finally observe the road and the traffic, think what the examiner has asked you to do and do what the examiner has asked of you.

All of these tips are tried and true, so if you want to ace your driving exam, be sure to follow them.
